The Institute for Development and Peace (INEF) is hosting five panels and two roundtables under the auspices of the IPRA Development and Peace working group. In addition, the INEF is  organizing a panel on the role of youth in peace-building under the auspices of the Youth and Peace Caucus.

The papers will explore the role of institutions, both formal and informal, in political and conflict processes. One theme is about the function of hybrid political orders in local politics and vis-a-vis doner organizations. Other panels aks how external actors, particulary regional organizations can contribute to peace-building in selected cases in Africa, Latin America and Southeast Asia.

The two roundtables will bring together scholars, journalists and policymakers. The first roundtable will debate the increasing role of development aid from non-OECD countries and its impact on the global aid architecture. The second roundtable will discuss several possible scenarios for the political future of Pakistan.

The panels and roundtables will take place at the IPRA 2008 Global Conference at the University of Leuven, Belgium, 15-19 July.
